We started La Cigale in 1997 in a very small way. Having travelled to France for many years in our textile business we were inspired by all aspects of French style – from fashion to interior decoration to food & wine. A wonderful holiday with our daughters in France in 1997, particularly in Provence,, was the final inspiration we needed to begin our little venture.
Our name ‘’La Cigale’’ means “cicada’’, the sound of Provence all through the warm summer months and a recurring symbol in interior decoration in the region.
We source 99% of our products direct from France from various manufacturers and, in the case of the antiques and brocante from dealers and markets throughout France with most coming from the South. Between the two of us we make 5 or 6 trips to France each year to buy more products and for fresh inspiration.
Our shop in Parnell is within easy reach of downtown Auckland. For full details click on ‘’Our Shop’’ and ‘’Where to buy''.
Every two months we send our customers a newsletter. In them we may talk about somewhere we’ve been in France or a supplier we’ve visited. Always included are one or two easy recipes with a French twist, information about new goods in stock and a special French wine offer. If you would like to receive our newsletters by post please email us with all your details [we post all over the world].
With new fashion arriving to us from France on a regular basis we will be updating our web site every two weeks with the latest styles and a preview of what we have in store. Purchases or enquires can be made by contacting us by phone or email.
Thank you for visiting our site.
